A Proud Look

Proverbs 6:16-19 These six [things] doth the LORD hate: yea, seven [are] an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness [that] speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

Number Six
See CHRIST CONQUERS or WHY CHRIST ROSE ON SUNDAY by Louis Were (Excerpts by Obed Jensen) pg 9-10 “In Scripture, the number 6 is Babylon’s number. On the 6th day of creation the serpent and man were created. Since the fall, man and the serpent are shown in the Scriptures to be working together against their Creator. The 6th commandment deals with murder. Cain, the first man born into the world, was a murderer, and his genealogy ends with the 6th man.. See Gen. 4:17-18. Cain, at the one end of that genealogy, killed his brother Abel, while Lamech at the other end–the 6th man in the genealogy–also slew a man.-Gen.4:23. In Cain’s genealogy is foreshadowed the history of mankind—Cain, the first man, murdered his brother because Abel would not worship God as Cain wanted. The 6th plague comes when Babylon has tried to kill the anti-typical Abels who worship God the way He has commanded. The power which will lead out in this work of attempted destruction is branded with the number 666- Babylon’s number. See Rev. 13:18. The 6th clause of the Lord’s prayer deals with sin.In the Bible 6 words are used for man–Adam, Ish, Enosh, Geber ( in the OT); Anthropos and Aner in the NT. Six times Jesus was charged with having a devil: Mark 3:22; John 7:20; 8:48,52; 10:20; Luke 11:25. The Flood came in the 600th year of Noah!s life. The 6th person from the flood in the good line of descendants was Eber. Eber was born 66 years after the floodin the 666th year of Noah’s life; and it was during Eber’s lifetime that the rebellion of Nimrod came to a head and the confusion of tongues (Babylon) began. The image erected on the Plain of Dura was 60 cubits highs and 6 in breadth.”

Number six represents the worship of man and it’s the number of a man signifying his rebellion, imperfect works and disobedience. Number six is the number of humanity.Provebs talks of six things that God hates, for six is the number of humanity; these six things are those that fill up the cup of the sinfulness of humanity. Among the six things that God hates is “a proud look”. “The sinfulness of humanity had cast a pall over the fair face of creation; and instead of manifesting God, His works became a barrier that concealed Him. Men “worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator.” Thus the heathen “became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.” Romans 1:25, 21”[ Christ Object lessons pg 18].These six things that fill up the sinfulness of humanity if not repented , will lead the world to follow and worship the man of sin[a creature] other than Christ[the creator]

Pride Under the Pseudonym of “the prince of Tyrus

Psalm 10:2-4 The wicked in [his] pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined. For the wicked boasteth of his heart’s desire, and blesseth the covetous, [whom] the LORD abhorreth. The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek [after God]: God [is] not in all his thoughts.

The Psalmist says that God isn’t in the thoughts of the proud. See also Psalm 10:4 “The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek [after God]: God [is] not in all his thoughts”. That they boast of their hearts desire and persecute the poor. This reminds of a power in bible prophecy that has a proud look and persecutes. Its Mystical Babylon… “[As] a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; [so is] a wicked ruler over the poor people” [Proverbs 28:15]. Darkness in the heart brings about a proud look. This is the character of the devil for “God [is] not in all his thoughts”.

“In Ezekiel 28, Satan is again spoken of under the pseudonym of “the prince of Tyrus.” Verse 2 shows his pride: “Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God,” etc. Verses 12-15 describe his beauty, wisdom, and apparel, and his exalted office as a high cherub, before his sin and fall. Verse 15 reads: “Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day thou was created, till iniquity was found in thee.” {Modern Spiritualism pg 67.2}

In a proud heart is confusion and every evil work, for pride is of the devil. See James 3:14-17 “But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but [is] earthly, sensual, devilish.For where envying and strife [is], there [is] confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, [and] easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy”…“Is your conversation free from levity, pride and malice, deceit and impurity? Are you without guile before God? Words exert a telling power. Satan will, if possible, keep the tongue active in his service. Of ourselves we cannot control the unruly member. Divine grace is our only hope. Those who are eagerly studying how they may secure the pre-eminence, should study rather how they may gain that wisdom which is “first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.” He who has Christ formed within, the hope of glory, will “show out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.” {Signs Of The Times, February 8, 1883 par. 7} .

“We are living in the great day of intercession, the Day of Atonement, and to each one comes the word of warning, “Keep thyself unspotted from the world.” You cannot with safety join hands with the world. “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father; but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof; but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.” Better than all the friendship of the world is the friendship of Jesus Christ. Better than a title to the noblest palace on the earth is a title to the mansions which Christ has gone to prepare. And better than all the words of earthly praise, will be the words of Jesus to his faithful servants, “Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world” . . . {Sign of the Times, December 17, 1896 par. 15}

See Psalm 31:18-21 Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous. [Oh] how great [is] thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; [which] thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men! Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.Blessed [be] the LORD: for he hath showed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city.

Among the six things that God hates is a lying tongue and associated with a lying tongue is a proud look, thus the psalmist says a proud speech speaks “grievous things proudly”. And it’s only those that trust in God that will have a refuge against “strife of tongues” from a proud heart. Pride is of the Devil as spoken of in Ezekiel 28 under the pseudonym of “the prince of Tyrus.

Psalm 101:5 Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer.

Those that walk in pride God is able to abase

Daniel 4:37 Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works [are] truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

From the life experience of Nebuchadnezzar, we see that God abases pride. See Christ Triumphant pg 180.3 “The prophet Daniel described the kingdoms that would rise and fall. Interpreting to the king of Babylon the dream of the great image, he declared to Nebuchadnezzar that his kingdom would be superseded. His greatness and power in God’s world would have its day, and a second kingdom would arise that also would have its period of test and trial as to whether the people would exalt the one Ruler, the only true God. Not doing this, they and their glory would fade away, and a third kingdom would occupy their place. Proved by obedience or disobedience, this also would pass away, and a fourth, strong as iron, was to subdue the nations of the world. This Word, opened by the infinite God to finite human beings, recorded on the prophetic page, and traced on the pages of history, declares that God is the ruling power”… “The lesson that the Lord would have all humanity learn from the experience of the king of Babylon is that all who walk in pride He is able to abase. By stern discipline Nebuchadnezzar had to learn the lesson that God, not man, is Ruler, that His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. So man today must learn that God is supreme. When men gain success in the work of the Lord, it is because God has given them this success, not for their own glory, but for God’s glory. He who seeks to steal a ray of light from the glory of the Lord will find that he will be punished for his presumption.” {Publishing Ministry pg 140.1}

Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylonian kingdom was a type of the end time “mystical Babylon”, “Babylon of the Apocalypse” .This end time Babylon through pride does “ steal rays of light from the glory of the Lord” and is punished for this presumption, for she is puffed up with pride. See Revelation 18:20-21 “Rejoice over her, [thou] heaven, and [ye] holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her. And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast [it] into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.”

“Pride, love of the world, and departure from God, too plainly identify the Babylon of the Apocalypse with St. Paul’s description of the popular church of the last days. 2 Tim. 3, 1-5. “From such,” says the Apostle, “turn away.” If we would not partake of her sins, and thus share in the plagues that are about to be poured out upon her, we must heed the voice from heaven, “Come out of her my people.” {Three Angels of Revelation pg 68.1}

God is the ruling power that honors the humble and abases the proud.
Daniel 5:18-20 “O thou king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour: And for the majesty that he gave him, all people, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he put down. But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:”

A heart lifted up bears a mind hardened in pride .It’s such a heart and mind that God abases. See Isaiah 14:12 “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! [how] art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.”

“The prophet Isaiah, looking forward to the time of Satan’s overthrow, exclaims: “How art thou fallen from Heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cast down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations.” “Thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into Heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God.” “I will be like the Most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; that made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?” [Isaiah 14:12-17.] For six thousand years, Satan’s work of rebellion has “made the earth to tremble.” He has “made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof.” And “he opened not the house of his prisoners.” For six thousand years his prison-house has received God’s people, and he would have held them captive forever, but Christ has broken his bonds, and set the prisoners free” {Great Controversy pg 659.3}.

Satan says “I will ascend above the heights of the clouds”. Yet he is “ brought down to hell”.He is brought down for “thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name [is] Holy; I dwell in the high and holy [place], with him also [that is] of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones”. [Isaiah 57:15]

As Sodom, as Gomorrah

Zephaniah 2:9 Therefore [as] I live, saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, [even] the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them. 2:10 This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified [themselves] against the people of the LORD of hosts.

By reason of their pride Moab and Ammon suffer a perpetual desolation as Sodom and Gomorrah. This is because the works of Sodom and Gomorrah was found in them. What was found among the evils of Sodom and Gomorrah? See Ezekiel 16:48 -49 “[As] I live, saith the Lord GOD, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters. Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.” Pride was in Sodom and the scripture says that in the last days it shall be as it was in the days of Lot. “Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed [them] all.Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.” [Luke 17:28-30] .The sins of Sodom will be found in this last days and those who walk in the same sins of Sodom shall suffer the same fate of Sodom as threatened to Moab and Ammon.

Among the chief sins of Sodom was sodomy and talking of the evils as were in Sodom apostle Paul says “And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in [their] knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient” Romans 1:27-28.Those who practice the same sins as in Sodom are described as “they did not like to retain God in [their] knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind” and we saw that it’s the proud who don’t have God in their mind “The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek [after God]: God [is] not in all his thoughts” Psalm 10:4.Therefore the sin of pride before the eyes of God is as the sin of sodomy. Also those who support the same sins are guilty as those who practice them. See Romans 1:28,32 “And even as they did not like to retain God in [their] knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”

Remember Sodom was burned with brimstone and fire. See Genesis 19:24 “Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;” Also the dragon the beast and the false prophet shall be burned with fire and brimstone,See Revelation 20:10 “And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet [are], and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.” Those that walk in pride, a sin of Sodom, a sin as filthy as sodomy ,shall receive the mark of the Beast by reason of their pride ,for they are too proud to receive “the seal of God”, “the indelible mark of God” and they[the proud] shall suffer the same fate of the three fold satanic union of the dragon ,the beast and the false prophet . “And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.”[Revelation 19:20]

“The same angel who visited Sodom is sounding the note of warning, “Escape for thy life.” The bottles of God’s wrath cannot be poured out to destroy the wicked and their works until all the people of God have been judged, and the cases of the living as well as the dead are decided. And even after the saints are sealed with the seal of the living God, His elect will have trials individually. Personal afflictions will come; but the furnace is closely watched by an eye that will not suffer the gold to be consumed. The indelible mark of God is upon them. God can plead that His own name is written there. The Lord has shut them in. Their destination is inscribed–“God, New Jerusalem.” They are God’s property, His possession” Testimonies to Ministers and Gospel Workers (1923) pg 446.1

Pride a Spirit of Paganism

Daniel 8:9-13 “ And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant [land]. And it waxed great, [even] to the host of heaven; and it cast down [some] of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them. Yea, he magnified [himself] even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily [sacrifice] was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. And an host was given [him] against the daily [sacrifice] by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practiced, and prospered. Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain [saint] which spake, How long [shall be] the vision [concerning] the daily [sacrifice], and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?”

Alonzo comments “These specifications show that the little horn of the eighth chapter of Daniel represents Rome from the time of its rise, at the destruction of the Grecian Empire, to the end of the world, when it is “broken without hand” by that stone “cut out of the mountain without hands,” which then breaks in pieces and consumes all earthly kingdoms. Dan. 2:34, 35, 44, 45.” {The Consecrated Way to Christian Perfection pg 95.1}

From this account we see the roman power in its pagan and papal phases. “Rome-Rome in its comprehensive character,-pagan and papal, a unit or divided” And an underlying character of this power is that it “magnifies itself” “This is true of both pagan and papal Rome”. See also Daniel 8:23-25 “And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practice, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people. And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify [himself] in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand”.

All that will follow the Ecumenical roads that lead to Rome shall not be innocent from the sin of Pride, ” For all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” 1 John 2:16

The later phase the roman power, “papal rome” is recorded to be of a “fierce countenance” In the seventh chapter prophet Daniel also describes it to be of a stout look, See Daniel 7:20 “And of the ten horns that [were] in his head, and [of] the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even [of] that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look [was] more stout than his fellows”.

Noah Webster 1828 Dictionary Definition;

1. Strong; lusty.
2. Bold; intrepid; valiant; brave.
.3. Large; bulky. [A popular use of the word.]
4. Proud; resolute; obstinate.
5. Strong; firm; as a stout vessel.

A stout look is synonymous to a fierce and proud look. Pride is in the veins and heart beat of the “man of sin” and all that will wonder after him and also all that walk in pride will form the image of the beast… “Those who are indeed purifying their souls by obeying the truth will have a most humble opinion of themselves. The more closely they view the spotless character of Christ, the stronger will be their desire to be conformed to His image, and the less will they see of purity or holiness in themselves”{Counsels for the Church pg 352.1}… as a man “thinketh in his heart, so [is] he:” Prophet Malachi says “Your words have been stout against me, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, What have we spoken [so much] against thee? Ye have said, It [is] vain to serve God: and what profit [is it] that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts? And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, [they that] tempt God are even delivered.” Malachi 3:13-15.

“From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh” Those that have stout hearts, thus stout looks, speak stout words. In their stoutness they say “It [is] vain to serve God” …And now they have pleasure in the proud, “And now we call the proud happy”, these are they that will have pleasure in the beast and wonder after the beast… But Christ says, “Blessed [are] the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.”… “Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. Mathew 5:5, Mathew 11:28-29.

“And every teacher has his own wrong traits of character to watch lest the enemy use him as an agent to destroy souls. The teacher’s safety lies in learning daily in the school of Christ. He who learns in this school will hide self in Jesus and will remember that as he deals with his students he is dealing with a blood-bought heritage. In this school he will learn to be patient, humble, generous, noble. The molding hand of God will bring out in the character the divine image. {Counsels to Parents, Teachers, and Students (1913) pg 265.2}…But this is not so with them that teach for doctrines the commandments of men.

“Little by little, at first in stealth and silence and then more openly as it increased in strength and gained control of the minds of men, the mystery of iniquity carried forward its deceptive and blasphemous work. Almost imperceptibly the customs of heathenism found their way into the Christian church. The spirit of compromise and conformity was restrained for a time by the fierce persecutions which the church endured under paganism. But as persecution ceased, and Christianity entered the courts and palaces of kings, she laid aside the humble simplicity of Christ and His apostles for the pomp and pride of pagan priests and rulers; and in place of the requirements of God, she substituted human theories and traditions. The nominal conversion of Constantine in the early part of the fourth century caused great rejoicing; and the world, arrayed in robes of righteousness, walked into the church. Now the work of corruption rapidly progressed. Paganism, while appearing to be vanquished, became the conqueror. Her spirit controlled the church. Her doctrines, ceremonies, and superstitions were incorporated into the faith and worship of the professed followers of Christ.” {Story of Redemption pg 326.2}

Punishment of Proud Haughty Scorner

Proverbs 21:24 Proud [and] haughty scorner [is] his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.

The proud is a scorner.

Proverbs 21:11 “When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge”

Rome is proud thus a haughty scorner. And in the messages of the trumpets in the Revelation we see the punishment that an “apostate religion” suffered in the hands of the barbarians and a “false religion.”

“But to the Roman kingdom, heaven itself was poured out in the person of the Saviour, and it was Rome that nailed him to the cross. It was a Roman seal on his tomb, and a Roman guard at his grave. The early church suffered persecution at the hands of this same power. Judgment came to Rome when these barbarians overran the empire with fire and sword, and the kingdom was divided into ten parts” {Story of Daniel the Prophet pg 94.1}

“Another phase of history, not wholly national, but having to do with nations, is revealed in the sounding of the trumpets. The sounding of the seven trumpets extends to the close of the eleventh chapter, the seventh trumpet carrying history into eternity, like the seventh church and the seventh seal. The work of the trumpets is first introduced to John in the second verse of chapter eight. Seven angels stood before God, “and to them were given seven trumpets.” The trumpet, or bugle sound, is the call to war; and the history of the trumpets is one long story of war and bloodshed, but in order that men might learn that the hand of God is overruling in every army, and that He guides in every war, the story of the trumpets is left on record.” {Story of the Seer of Patmos pg 148.2}

When we study the prophecy of the trumpets how “the proud Rome, the scorner”, suffered wars and  woes, then we should “learn that the hand of God is over ruling” and from an understanding of these events of bible prophecy we should be made wise, for when “scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge”…. “Let us give more time to the study of the Bible. We do not understand the Word as we should. The book of Revelation opens with an injunction to us to understand the instruction that it contains. When we . . . understand what this book means to us, there will be seen among us a great revival” {Faith I Live By pg 346.3}… “If the workers will humble their hearts before God, the blessing will come. They will all the while be receiving fresh, new ideas, and there will be a wonderful revival of gospel medical missionary work” {Medical Ministry pg 257.1}. “A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.” Proverbs 15:13….A merry heart removes a proud,stout,firce,heart and countenance. “A merry heart doeth good [like] a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones” Proverbs 17:22. As opposed to a broken spirit, a merry heart is medicine to the bones and brings a revival as in the valley of dry bones of Ezekiel 37.But all this will only happen if we put away a proud heart and look .. Remember “If the workers will humble their hearts before God, the blessing will come”.

Proverbs 19:25 says “Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, [and] he will understand knowledge”… We get wise and humbled by receiving instruction and the increase of knowledge by studying the books of Daniel and Revelation and learning from “the smiting” of the “proud haughty scorner”. Note that “All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works”. 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

See Proverbs 9:1-10 “Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars: She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table. She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city, Whoso [is] simple, let him turn in hither: [as for] him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine [which] I have mingled. Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked [man getteth] himself a blot.Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. Give [instruction] to a wise [man], and he will be yet wiser: teach a just [man], and he will increase in learning. The fear of the LORD [is] the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy [is] understanding.”

The Psalmist Says…. “I [am] thy servant; give me understanding, that I may know thy testimonies. [It is] time for [thee], LORD, to work: [for] they have made void thy law.Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold.Therefore I esteem all [thy] precepts [concerning] all [things to be] right; [and] I hate every false way. Thy testimonies [are] wonderful: therefore doth my soul keep them. The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.” Psalm 119:125-128

An understanding of the books of Daniel and Revelation instructs us away from pride, and a proud look. Pride a thing which God hates.

“A scorner seeketh wisdom, and [findeth it] not:” Proverbs 14:6.For the “Proud [and] haughty scorner” “ dealeth in proud”.

In Daniel 7:8,20 the papacy is represented as “another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn [were] eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things”…. “that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look [was] more stout than his fellows.”
The reason of this stout look is a proud heart.

“Daniel considered the horns. Indications of a strange movement appeared among them. A little horn (at first little, but afterward more stout than its fellows) thrust itself up among them. It was not content quietly to find a place of its own, and fill it; it must thrust aside some of the others, and usurp their places. …. And “in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things,” the eyes, a fit emblem of the shrewdness, penetration, cunning, and foresight of the papal hierarchy; and the mouth speaking great things, a fit symbol of the arrogant claims of the bishops of Rome.” {Daniel and the Revelation pg 134.1}

“The eyes [of the little horn], a fit emblem of the shrewdness, penetration, cunning, and foresight” a character of the papacy and all the proud…

Commenting on the “seven eyes” of the lamb of “Revelation 5:7”.Smith Uriah says “ Horns are symbols of power, eyes of wisdom; and seven is a number denoting completeness, or perfection. We are thus taught that perfect power and perfect wisdom in here in the Lamb, through the operation of the Spirit of God, called the seven Spirits of God, to denote the fulness and perfection of its operation. {Daniel and the Revelation pg 424.3}

“Eyes a symbol of wisdom”, thus the eyes of the little horn of Daniel 7 which were as the “eyes of a man” symbolize “the wisdom of man” .Wisdom of man which is full of shrewdness and pride.

Under the type of “a foolish woman” the papacy is typified as calling men to the wisdom of man, See Proverbs 9:13-18 “A foolish woman [is] clamorous: [she is] simple, and knoweth nothing. For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city, To call passengers who go right on their ways:Whoso [is] simple, let him turn in hither: and [as for] him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, Stolen waters are sweet, and bread [eaten] in secret is pleasant. But he knoweth not that the dead [are] there; [and that] her guests [are] in the depths of hell ” …
In the “wisdom of man” which gives a stout/proud look is pride in abundance and the dead [are] there; [and that] her guests [are] in the depths of hell. Pride leads to the depths of hell.

Under the type of Wisdom a pure “woman/church” is typified saying “Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars: She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table. She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city, Whoso [is] simple, let him turn in hither: [as for] him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, Come, eat of my bread and drink of the wine [which] I have mingled Proverbs 9:1-5..

Its only those that will forsake the “call to pride” by the “foolish woman” that will escape death and hell. Who so shall drink the “wine of Babylon” the “Stolen waters” and partake of her “bread [eaten] in secret” shall have a “proud look” and develop the image of the beast. And shall then partake together in the punishment of the “proud haughty scorner” with fire and brimstone. See Revelation 14:9-11 “And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive [his] mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name”

A proud look God hates. “ I saw that many prayed for God to humble them; but if God should answer their prayers, it would be by terrible things in righteousness. It was their duty to humble themselves. I saw that if self-exaltation was suffered to come in, it would surely lead souls astray, and if not overcome would prove their ruin. When one begins to get lifted up in his own eyes and thinks he can do something, the Spirit of God is withdrawn, and he goes on in his own strength until he is overthrown ” . {Early Writings pg 120.2}

“The highway of the upright [is] to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.  Pride [goeth] before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Better [it is to be] of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud”.Provebs 16:17-19.
