Prophetic Picture

Ezekiel 4:1 Thou also, son of man, take thee a tile, and lay it before thee, and portray upon it the city, [even] Jerusalem:

“The church is the one object upon which God bestows His supreme regard” (AA. 12). “To John were opened scenes of deep and thrilling interest in the experience of the church. He saw the position, dangers, conflicts, and final deliverance of the people of God…. Subjects of vast importance were revealed to him, especially for the last church, that those who should turn from error to truth might be instructed concerning the perils and conflicts before them. None need be in darkness in regard to what is coming upon the earth” (GC. 341, 342).

Like John, to other prophets like Ezekiel were subjects of great importance revealed.

Jerusalem Portrayed upon a tile

What is to portray?

Strong’s Concordance definition
A primitive root properly; to hack, that is engrave…appoint decree governor, grave lawgiver, note, print set

From strong’s concordance definition of portray we can interchangeably use the words engrave, impress deeply for portray. Thus Ezekiel was told to engrave or rather impress deeply Jerusalem upon a tile. This clearly brings out the prophetic picture that we are considering .Jerusalem upon a tile.

Diligent study brings greater understanding

In manuscript releases we read “This book [Revelation] demands close, prayerful study, lest it be interpreted according to the ideas of men, and false construction be given to the sacred Word of the Lord, which in its symbols and figures means so much to us. There is so much that we positively must understand in order that we may shape our course of action so that we shall not receive the plagues which are coming upon the world. {1MR 42.1}In the Revelation the deep things of God are portrayed. Those whose hearts are wholly sanctified to God will be brought nigh to see priceless gems through the telescope of faith. And as they apply the truth to practice, the still deeper mysteries are stamped on the soul. Those thus honored are to communicate to others that which they have received. And as they do this, angels make the impression upon hearts. {1MR 42.2}

Since all books in the bible flow to and meet at Revelation then the same diligence required when studying Revelation should be applied when studying other portions of the scriptures .Zooming our telescope into the prophetic picture in Ezekiel we ask

What is a tile?

Strong’s Concordance definition
Brick [from the whiteness of a clay]

If tile is clay or made of clay then the zoomed prophetic picture that we now have is Jerusalem upon a clay foundation.

In Acts of the Apostles we read that “In figures and symbols, subjects of vast importance were presented to John . . . that the people of God . . . might have an intelligent understanding of the perils and conflicts before them. . . . In the Revelation are portrayed the deep things of God. . . In the Revelation all the books of the Bible meet and end…. The names of the seven churches are symbolic of the church in different periods of the Christian era. The number seven indicates completeness, and is symbolic . . the symbols used . . .Christ is spoken of as walking in the midst of the golden candlesticks. Thus is symbolized His relation to the churches.” A.A. 583-586.

There are grand truths to be learned in figures and symbols. We want to find out what subject of vast importance is there for us, from the prophetic picture that we find in Ezekiel 4 which he was commanded to publish…

Compare and contrast
Ralph Larson says that “ Many good sermon outlines can be developed by comparing and contrasting the experiences of people in the Bible. We use the term compare when we are noting similarities, things that are alike. We use the term contrast when we are noting dissimilarities, things that are not alike. We can compare the ex-periences of different people in regard to the same command of God. We can compare the experiences of the same man before and after his conversion. We can compare different members of the same family. The possibilities for this type of outline are many, and they are effective means of teaching truth, because we are discussing real people who had real experiences, not unlike ours. This method is also useful in developing illustrations of the principles being discussed in other types of outlines. Here are some examples of outlines formed by this method, the use of Comparison and Contrast:”..Preach the word pg 23

Before we look at the reason for God having Ezekiel bring the imagery of Jerusalem on a clay foundation. We shall consider what the foundation of New Jerusalem is.

Applying the principle of compare and contrast we then can compare the picture of Jerusalem on a clay foundation that Ezekiel was given with another picture of new Jerusalem with a foundation that John saw.

Describing the New Jerusalem we read in Revelation that

Revelation 21:18 And the building of the wall of it was [of] jasper: and the city [was] pure gold, like unto clear glass. 21:19 And the foundations of the wall of the city [were] garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation [was] jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;

Note that unlike the Jerusalem in Ezekiel which has a clay foundation the Jerusalem in Revelation has a jasper foundation. Since scripture always interprets scripture, the scripture will reveal what the Jasper foundation of New Jerusalem represents

Revelation 4:2 And immediately I was in the spirit; and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and [one] sat on the throne. 4:3 And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and [there was] a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.

Commenting Revelation 4 Uriah Smith says “Being again fully wrapped in heavenly vision, the first object which he beholds is a throne set in heaven, and the Divine Being seated thereon. The description of the appearance of this personage, clothed in the mingled colors of the jasper, frequently a purple, and the blood-red sardine stone, is such as at once to suggest to the mind a monarch vested with his royal robes. And round about the throne there was a rainbow, both adding to the grandeur of the scene, and reminding us that though he who sits upon the throne is an almighty and absolute ruler, he is nevertheless the covenant-keeping God. {1897 UrS, DAR 414.4}

If the Jasper foundation describes a condition that the New Jerusalem is in, where God himself is the foundation and honor is to him then the clay foundation in Ezekiel’s prophetic picture must also symbolize the condition that literal Jerusalem was in and who this clay foundation symbolized.

The creature made of clay that seeks worship?

Prophet Ellen White writes “Here we are taught that finite man is not to be placed where God should be. He is not to be honored as a god, or to be bowed down to. “Worship Him that made heaven and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.” The man of sin is worshiped in the person of the pope, and his representative, the cardinal. But God has not given this power to pope or prelate. The pope is not regarded by God as anything more than a man who is acting out in our world the character of the man of sin, representing in his claims that power and authority which Satan claimed in the heavenly courts. {5MR 102.2}

Job 10:9 says” Remember; I beseech thee, that thou hast made me as the clay; and wilt thou bring me into dust again? “

Man is made of clay. The condition symbolized in Ezekiel’s prophetic picture Jerusalem with clay foundation is where they had given themselves to the give honor to a creature[made of clay] rather than the creator, for in a condition where the honor is due to the creator the foundation is jasper like in New Jerusalem.

We read ;
2 Thessolonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for [that day shall not come], except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. 2:5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? 2:6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. 2:7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth [will let], until he be taken out of the way. 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 2:9 [Even him], whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

Ellen White says “The Representative of Satan.–There is one pointed out in prophecy as the man of sin. He is the representative of Satan. Taking the suggestions of Satan concerning the law of God, which is as unchangeable as His throne, this man of sin comes in and represents to the world that he has changed that law, and that the first day of the week instead of the seventh is now the Sabbath. Professing infallibility, he claims the right to change the law of God to suit his own purposes. By so doing, he exalts himself above God, and leaves the world to infer that God is fallible. If it were indeed true that God had made a rule of government that needed to be changed, it would certainly show fallibility. {7BC 910.3} But Christ declared that not one jot or tittle of the law should fail until heaven and earth should pass away. The very work that He came to do was to exalt that law, and show to the created worlds and to heaven that God is just, and that His law need not be changed. But here is Satan’s right-hand man ready to carry on the work that Satan commenced in heaven, that of trying to amend the law of God. And the Christian world has sanctioned his efforts by adopting this child of the Papacy–the Sunday institution. They have nourished it, and will continue to nourish it, until Protestantism shall give the hand of fellowship to the Roman power. {7BC 910.4}

Satan’s right-hand the papacy; those that occupy the papal seat are human beings made of clay; they are the right hand men of Satan. When Ezekiel was told to portray Jerusalem on a clay foundation it was a twofold message. It showed the condition of literal Israel then and it was a prophecy of the condition that will exist among one class of Israel of God when they wonder after the beast.The imagery given in Ezekiel is a type one class of the people of God [foolish virgins] wondering after the beast and the succeeding texts tell us what will become of the people of God if they lose the liberty of their conscience to wonder after the devil to worship him by honoring the papacy..

“When the Protestant churches shall unite with the secular power to sustain a false religion, for opposing which their ancestors endured the fiercest persecution; when the state shall use its power to enforce the decrees and sustain the institutions of the church–then will Protestant America have formed an image to the papacy, and there will be a national apostasy which will end only in national ruin (ST March 22, 1910). {7BC 976.4}

Upon two or three witnesses

Genesis 41:32 And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; [it is] because the thing [is] established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass

Deutronomy 19:15 One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.

There are other witnesses in scripture that testify to the fact that when Jerusalem is on a clay foundation then it’s a prophecy of some of Gods people wondering after the Beast power and the devil.

1Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

Ezekiel 8:8 Then said he unto me, Son of man, dig now in the wall: and when I had digged in the wall, behold a door. 8:9 And he said unto me, Go in, and behold the wicked abominations that they do here. 8:10 So I went in and saw; and behold every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed upon the wall round about. 8:11 And there stood before them seventy men of the ancients of the house of Israel, and in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, with every man his censer in his hand; and a thick cloud of incense went up.

Here again the word portrayed is used in connection with clay. Jerusalem portrayed upon clay and abominable beasts and all the idols of the house of Israel portrayed upon a clay wall. A wall is made of clay. Upon the wall were portrayed abominable beasts and all the idols of the house of Israel. Again here we see Israelites the inhabitants of Jerusalem associated with a Jerusalem in a condition where they have fallen into devil worship through idolatry. This enlarges the prophetic picture of Ezekiel 4.

John Alonzo Says “The worship of the sun: In Ezekiel 8 is recorded what he saw in Jerusalem, even in the very presence of the holy temple, as he was taken there in vision from the place of his captivity. First he saw “the image of jealousy” in the very entry of the gates of the altar. Next he saw, in one of the chambers of the court of the temple, “every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed upon the wall round about,” with “seventy men of the ancients of the house of Israel,” every one with a censer in his hand, offering incense. {January 18, 1898 ATJ, ARSH 45.5}”

Ellen White says” In the sixth year of the reign of Zedekiah, the Lord revealed to Ezekiel in vision some of the abominations that were being practiced in Jerusalem, and within the gate of the Lord’s house, and even in the inner court. The chambers of images, and the pictured idols, “every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel”–all these in rapid succession passed before the astonished gaze of the prophet. Ezekiel 8:10. Those who should have been spiritual leaders among the people, “the ancients of the house of Israel,” to the number of seventy, were seen offering incense before the idolatrous representations that had been introduced into hidden chambers within the sacred precincts of the temple court. “The Lord seeth us not,” the men of Judah flattered themselves as they engaged in their heathenish practices; “the Lord hath forsaken the earth,” they blasphemously declared. Verses 11, 12. {PK 448.3}”

In the book we Evangelism we read” When Seal of God Is Refused.–If the light of truth has been presented to you, revealing the Sabbath of the fourth commandment, and showing that there is no foundation in the Word of God for Sunday observance, and yet you still cling to the false sabbath, refusing to keep holy the Sabbath which God calls “My holy day,” you receive the mark of the beast. When does this take place? When you obey the decree that commands you to cease from labor on Sunday and worship God, while you know that there is not a word in the Bible showing Sunday to be other than a common working day, you consent to receive the mark of the beast, and refuse the seal of God.–Review and Herald, July 13, 1897. {Ev 235.2}

Another witness

Ezekiel 23:11 And when her sister Aholibah saw [this], she was more corrupt in her inordinate love than she, and in her whoredoms more than her sister in [her] whoredoms. 23:12 She doted upon the Assyrians [her] neighbours, captains and rulers clothed most gorgeously, horsemen riding upon horses, all of them desirable young men. 23:13 Then I saw that she was defiled, [that] they [took] both one way, 23:14 And [that] she increased her whoredoms: for when she saw men portrayed upon the wall, the images of the Chaldeans portrayed with vermilion,

Again here the word portrayed is associated with clay-wall “she saw men portrayed upon the wall “and increased her whoredoms: for when she saw men portrayed upon the wall, the images of the Chaldeans portrayed with vermilion .Its Chaldeans who in scripture are portrayed upon a clay wall, so when Ezekiel portrays Jerusalem on a clay wall it symbolizes that the men of Jerusalem had adopted the character of the Chaldeans, or rather we see symbolism of image of the beast being formed. And it shows what we can draw from that picture. It’s that when such a condition exists whoredom increase. Again we can confidently affirm that the prophetic picture that Ezekiel was given was a prophecy of a class in spiritual Israel leaving the true worship of God and following after the devil, forming the image of the beast.

In patriarchs and prophets we read “Through the agency of evil spirits strange gods were introduced; and because of transgression, the chosen people were finally scattered from the Land of Promise. This history Satan is striving to repeat in our day. God is leading His people out from the abominations of the world, that they may keep His law; and because of this, the rage of “the accuser of our brethren” knows no bounds. “The devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.” Revelation 12:10, 12. The antitypical land of promise is just before us, and Satan is determined to destroy the people of God and cut them off from their inheritance. The admonition, “Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation” (Mark 14:38), was never more needed than now”. {PP 688.3}

Ezekiel 23:17 continues to say “And the Babylonians came to her into the bed of love, and they defiled her with their whoredom, and she was polluted with them, and her mind was alienated from them. “

The condition that exists when Jerusalem is portrayed upon clay is like the condition of aholibah. There was the welcoming of Babylonians into the bed of love. This is Ecumenism and it will increase whoredoms and lead into Babylonian captivity.

A time of love

Song of Solomon 3:1 By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.3:2 I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not. 3:3The watchmen that go about the city found me: [to whom I said], Saw ye him whom my soul loveth? 3:4 [It was] but a little that I passed from them, but I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go, until I had brought him into my mother’s house, and into the chamber of her that conceived me.

The woman in Song of Solomon seeks for her lover in her bed unlike the woman in Ezekiel who has Babylonians in her bed of love. A woman represents a church in bible prophecy. The church in Song of Solomon seeks for Christ whereas the church in Ezekiel seeks for the papacy/spiritual mother Babylon. Thus when Ezekiel is shown Jerusalem portrayed upon clay it was a prophecy of a condition where some churches [anti typical aholibahs] will seek to unite under the papacy.Ecumenism.While the true church like that is Song of Solomon seeks the love of Christ. This clearly shows that God is not the foundation of ecumenical movements.

Watchmen lead to Christ
Song of Solomon 3:2 I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

Notice that it’s after the woman asks the watchmen that she finds her love. The church today too needs the voice of the watchmen.

Who is a watchman?
Ezekiel 3:1 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel. 3:2 So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat that roll. 3:3 And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat [it]; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.Ezekiel 3:17 Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.

Ezekiel is made a watchman after eating the roll. Thus it’s the voice of those that have eaten the books of Daniel and revelation that shall lead the church into the love of Christ. Those that deny the two books will then seek the love of the papacy through ecumenism like in the imagery we found in aholibahs character.

Babylonian Captivity
Ezekiel 4:2 And lay siege against it, and build a fort against it, and cast a mount against it; set the camp also against it, and set [battering] rams against it round about.

Isaiah 29:1 Woe to Ariel, to Ariel, the city [where] David dwelt! add ye year to year; let them kill sacrifices. 29:2 Yet I will distress Ariel, and there shall be heaviness and sorrow: and it shall be unto me as Ariel. 29:3 And I will camp against thee round about, and will lay siege against thee with a mount, and I will raise forts against thee. 29:4 And thou shalt be brought down, [and] shalt speak out of the ground, and thy speech shall be low out of the dust, and thy voice shall be, as of one that hath a familiar spirit, out of the ground, and thy speech shall whisper out of the dust.

Jeremiah 52:3 For through the anger of the LORD it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah, till he had cast them out from his presence, that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon. 52:4 And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth [day] of the month, [that] Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and pitched against it, and built forts against it round about.

A fort is built against Jerusalem because of its condition in Ezekiel 4 verse one. This is a prophecy of what will become of all those who have a papal foundation and seek mother Babylon’s[papacy] love through ecumenism they shall end under the siege of Catholicism the spiritual mother babylon.Those that forts have been set against are in distress. This is the distress that awaits those that are courting the papacy through ecumenical movements and forming the image of the beast.

Four hundred and thirty years

Ezekiel 4:5 For I have laid upon thee the years of their iniquity, according to the number of the days, three hundred and ninety days: so shalt thou bear the iniquity of the house of Israel. 4:6 And when thou hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days: I have appointed thee each day for a year.

A day for a year Ezekiel is told to lay for three hundred and ninety days and to lie again by his right hand for forty days a total of four hundred and thirty years.

Why four hundred and thirty days

Galatians 3:17 And this I say, [that] the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.

In August 24, 1891 Christ our Hope By Mrs. E. G. White we read “The terms of this oneness between God and man in the great covenant of redemption were arranged with Christ from all eternity. The covenant of grace was revealed to the patriarchs. The covenant made with Abraham four hundred and thirty years before the law was spoken on Sinai was a covenant confirmed by God in Christ, the very same gospel which is preached to us. “The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.” The covenant of grace is not a new truth, for it existed in the mind of God from all eternity. This is why it is called the everlasting covenant. The plan of redemption was not conceived after the fall of man to cure the dreadful evil; the apostle Paul speaks of the gospel, the preaching of Jesus Christ, as “the revelation of the mystery, which hath been kept in silence through times eternal, but now is manifested, and by the Scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the eternal God, is made known unto all the nations unto obedience of faith.”

Ezekiel by lying down and told to bear the iniquity of the house of Israel is because Israel ministered unto them before their idols, and caused the house of Israel to fall into iniquity.

Ezekiel 44:12 says Because they ministered unto them before their idols, and caused the house of Israel to fall into iniquity; therefore have I lifted up mine hand against them, saith the Lord GOD, and they shall bear their iniquity.

The covenant made with Abraham four hundred and thirty years before the law was spoken on Sinai was a covenant confirmed by God in Christ. Thus by the imagery of Ezekiel bearing the iniquity of the people for 430 years it’s because they had rejected the covenant and were under bondage as the Israelites were in Egypt. This is the same route that Ecumenism leads and all those under the ecumenical banner will deny Christ and fall into the papal snare and bondage, for they have been made drunk in the cup of false hood.

Isaiah 24:4 says The earth mourneth [and] fadeth away, the world languisheth [and] fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish. 24:5 The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.

Jeremiah 11:10 says They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.

Exodus 12:40 Now the sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, [was] four hundred and thirty years. 12:41 And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day it came to pass, that all the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt. 12:42 It [is] a night to be much observed unto the LORD for bringing them out from the land of Egypt: this [is] that night of the LORD to be observed of all the children of Israel in their generations.

After 430 years the sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt were brought out, that is deliverance, but in Ezekiel’s imagery he bears the iniquity of Israelite’s for 430 years the succeeding texts of Ezekiel 4 show that they enter into bondage. Instead of deliverance they are in bondage.Ecumenism doesn’t lead to deliverance but bondage.

Ellen white wrote “Then I was pointed back to the years 1843 and 1844. There was a spirit of consecration then that there is not now. What has come over the professed peculiar people of God? I saw the conformity to the world, the unwillingness to suffer for the truth’s sake. I saw a great lack of submission to the will of God. I was pointed back to the children of Israel after they left Egypt. God in mercy called them out from the Egyptians, that they might worship Him without hindrance or restraint. He wrought for them in the way by miracles, He proved and tried them by bringing them into strait places. After the wonderful dealings of God with them, and their deliverance so many times, they murmured when tried or proved by Him. Their language was, “Would to God we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt.” They lusted for the leeks and onions there. {CET 158.1}

Mount against it

Ezekiel 4:1 Thou also, son of man, take thee a tile, and lay it before thee, and portray upon it the city, [even] Jerusalem: 4:2 And lay siege against it, and build a fort against it, and cast a mount against it; set the camp also against it, and set [battering] rams against it round about.

Because of the condition in the prophetic picture of Ezekiel 4 verse one, Ezekiel is told to cast a mount against the Jerusalem on clay foundations. Because of Idolatry and drunkenness then a mount is cast and a siege laid against Jerusalem .All that fulfill the type of Jerusalem upon clay foundations will be overcome when the papacy shall mount against the seed of the remnant at the Sunday law.

In Darkness before dawn we read ‘As the decree issued by the various rulers of Christendom against commandment keepers shall withdraw the protection of government and abandon them to those who desire their destruction, the people of God will flee from the cities and villages and associate together in companies, dwelling in the most desolate and solitary places. Many will find refuge in the strongholds of the mountains. Like the Christians of the Piedmont valleys, they will make the high places of the earth their sanctuaries and will thank God for “the munitions of rocks.” Isaiah 33:16. But many of all nations and of all classes, high and low, rich and poor, black and white, will be cast into the most unjust and cruel bondage. The beloved of God pass weary days, bound in chains, shut in by prison bars, sentenced to be slain, some apparently left to die of starvation in dark and loathsome dungeons. No human ear is open to hear their moans; no human hand is ready to lend them help. {DD 42.4}

Jeremiah6:6 For thus hath the LORD of hosts said, Hew ye down trees, and cast a mount against Jerusalem: this [is] the city to be visited; she [is] wholly oppression in the midst of her. 6:7 As a fountain casteth out her waters, so she casteth out her wickedness: violence and spoil is heard in her; before me continually [is] grief and wounds.

In Jeremiah is another account where a mount is set against Jerusalem. From this account we see that a mount is set over Jerusalem because they have drank from broken cisterns now they cast out dirty water. Thus the people of Jerusalem in verse 1 of Ezekiel 4 by being in Jerusalem with a clay foundation again its evident that they have drank from broken cisterns and are now full of wickedness. This is the same condition of those that are after Ecumenism, building Jerusalem on a clay foundation[papal foundation].

In Great controversy we read ‘The wide diversity of belief in the Protestant churches is regarded by many as decisive proof that no effort to secure a forced uniformity can ever be made. But there has been for years, in churches of the Protestant faith, a strong and growing sentiment in favor of a union based upon common points of doctrine. To secure such a union, the discussion of subjects upon which all were not agreed–however important they might be from a Bible standpoint–must necessarily be waived. Charles Beecher, in a sermon in the year 1846, declared that the ministry of “the evangelical Protestant denominations” is “not only formed all the way up under a tremendous pressure of merely human fear, but they live, and move, and breathe in a state of things radically corrupt, and appealing every hour to every baser element of their nature to hush up the truth, and bow the knee to the power of apostasy. Was not this the way things went with Rome? Are we not living her life over again? And what do we see just ahead? Another general council! A world’s convention! Evangelical alliance, and universal creed!”–Sermon on “The Bible a Sufficient Creed,” delivered at Fort Wayne, Indiana, Feb. 22, 1846. When this shall be gained, then, in the effort to secure complete uniformity, it will be only a step to the resort to force. {GC 444.3} .

James3:11Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet [water] and bitter? 3:12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so [can] no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. 3:13 Who [is] a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him show out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. 3:14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. 3:15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but [is] earthly, sensual, devilish. 3:16 For where envying and strife [is], there [is] confusion and every evil work. 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, [and] easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. 3:18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

What awaits those with ecumenical breath is to be under mother Babylonian captivity.

Ezekiel26:6 And her daughters which [are] in the field shall be slain by the sword; and they shall know that I [am] the LORD. 26:7For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will bring upon Tyrus Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, a king of kings, from the north, with horses, and with chariots, and with horsemen, and companies, and much people26:8 He shall slay with the sword thy daughters in the field: and he shall make a fort against thee, and cast a mount against thee, and lift up the buckler against thee.

Ezekiel 26:6 lifts the curtain to show the character of spiritual Babylon[mother Rome]

Ellen White wrote”There is need of a much closer study of the Word of God; especially should Daniel and the Revelation have attention as never before in the history of our work. We may have less to say in some lines, in regard to the Roman power and the papacy, but we should call attention to what the prophets and apostles have written under the inspiration of the Spirit of God. . . . {CTr 335.2}

Those Ecumenicals in adventism [foolish virgins] and those fallen protestants that are trying to build Jerusalem on a clay foundation [papal foundation] , should call attention to what the prophets and apostles have written under the inspiration of the Spirit of God in regard to the Roman power and the papacy .
